When the United States Congress finally approved Mother's Day in 1914, they designated it for the second Sunday in May - and required that the President proclaim the Holiday every year shortly prior to its commencement.

Mother's Day is typically celebrated with activities and gifts to honor Mom - family gathering, a walk in the park, dinner or maybe even the entire weekend off. Although flowers are rooted in tradition, dating back to the original celebration where Anna Jarvis handed out carnations to the church-goers; it is increasingly more popular to think outside tradition and say thanks with something different - like cookies that redefine homemade taste and will totally delight any Mom (because she didn't have to do the baking) !

Here's wishing Mom's everywhere a happy Mother's Day!

As DownEast magazine said, "These cookies transcend gourmet snacks and become almost edible works of art." That got us thinking. We know what Nirvana, Utopia, Kismet and Paradise taste like, but what do they look like? So began the challenge we put for to Sean Bowen, Master Cookie Painter, when we asked him to design paintings for some of our cookies. Here's a couple of them:

Sean's work possesses a unique style and figurative quality of its own, creating expression through mood, color, image and in this case, cookies.
